THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS A new group of innocent individuals now reside in the serene realm of paradise, free at last from the shackles imposed by a deceptive government and its treacherous schemes. Before they could distinguish between the veils of falsehood and the light of truth, a demon armed to the teeth barred them from living out their youth, unleashing more chaos in an already chaotic world. The young, innocent lives that have been lost will never have the chance to experience the joys of childhood and adolescence—moments like riding a bike down sun-drenched streets, conquering the heights of a mountain, or eagerly preparing for the excitement of prom night. They will miss out on the thrill of skiing down a snowy slope, setting up a campsite under the stars, or sharing laughter and secrets with friends as they explore the world around them. They were denied experiences for their growth and development into adulthood, enriching other lives with memories that shape who we become. How truly heartbreaking to think of all the adventures they will never embark on or the milestones they will never reach. We navigate a world where the line between reality and illusion is painfully blurred. The leaders of nations engage in hollow rhetoric, spewing forth words that are devoid of meaning and truth. Their declarations bring little solace, serving only to cast deeper shadows over our already beleaguered spirits. They amplify the darkness that envelops us, adding to the weight of our collective fears, while the countless souls, already overwhelmed with sorrow, continue to drown in a sea of tears. What once was bitter has now been twisted to appear sweet, and the lies that swirl around us have gained acceptance, masquerading as truth. The struggle to navigate this murky landscape feels unending, and one must question how we became so lost in the dark. In this grim landscape, the so-called “thoughts” they offer as comfort bring only deeper anguish, and the “prayers” they utter seem to vanish into the void, unheard and unanswered. The hopes of the suffering remain unfulfilled, as we yearn for change in a world so saturated with despair. ©Habib Dabajeh
